How I Overcame Worries and Fears because of Philosophy

Why do we human beings exist in this universe? Why does the planet Earth have life? Why are my parents my parents? Why is my family my family? Why am I who I am?

What if the world is a simulation? What if the world is like The Matrix? What if reality is an illusion or a dream? What if I'm not real? What if everything in the universe is my imagination?

What if----?

Stop. Tell yourself to stop. Stop all the what if thoughts. Don't listen to them. Don't fight them.

I used to suffer from severe obsessive-compulsive disorder from 2016 to June 2021. I used to suffer from many types of OCD.

Existentialism and other philosophical ideas made me worry, afraid, suffer, miserable, and depressed.

Worries and fears because of philosophical ideas made me miserable and ruined many days.

Worries and fears because of philosophical ideas came again this year.

For people who worry and are afraid because of philosophical ideas, or people with philosophy or existential OCD, this is how I overcome worries and fears because of philosophical ideas.

#1 Philosophical ideas are not important. Don't get me wrong. Philosophical ideas are thought-provoking and interesting. Philosophers are very intelligent and thought-provoking people. These concepts are interesting to discuss. But philosophical ideas don't make you happy, make your life better, or solve your problems. They don't create money to make your life easier.

#2 Most philosophical ideas, or all of them, cannot be definitively proven. They don't have many pieces of concrete evidence that can prove them to be reality. You can do hours of research for days, but still lack knowledge.

Every human being needs food, water, and air to survive. That is undeniable. That has been proven since the beginning of humanity. You don't need many articles of scientific research to prove this. Your life and your body are evidence that you need food, water, and air to survive.

There is a theory that the universe is a simulation. It is a computer simulation. That theory cannot be proven or disproven. Definitive evidence to prove this theory does not exist. It is only speculation in people's minds.

Theories are beliefs. Theories use evidence to explain something. But theories cannot be definitively proven. Which is why theories are debated.

#3 There are too many ideas and opinions. Every popular philosophical idea and religion has supporters and people who are against them. These things are not definitive.

It's not like gravity and food. You turn on the sink and water falls to the ground because of gravity. You are very hungry and eat food. Your hunger has been solved because of the food you eat. It doesn't matter what you think or how you feel or how you interpret things. The food removed your hunger. If you intentionally refused to stop eating food, you would get sick. If you still refuse to eat food, you will eventually collapse and die. Your body is telling you that you are in pain. Your thoughts, feelings, and interpretations cannot negate or ignore the pain your body gave you. The food you ate kept you alive. Because every human being needs water, food, and air to survive.

#4 We all lack knowledge of many things. What those specific things are depends on the person. I am not a genius who has the answers to everything. I don't. There are many things I don't know. There are many things I don't have a good answer for. Intelligent physicists and scientists admit there are many things in the universe that they do not know. After thousands of years of human research and the technology we have in the modern day, most of the universe is a mystery.

These knowledgeable and well-educated people cannot definitively answer everything or most of the mysteries and unknowns of the universe, despite having computers, cameras, formulas, simulations, vehicles, and satellites. They analyze everything that can be found or detected in the physical universe with technology, but still do not know most of the information about the universe. Philosophies aren't going to help you or solve many of your problems.

#5 Give up. Let it go. What made me happy and gave me peace of mind was giving up and letting go of philosophical ideas. Stop trying to answer or solve philosophical ideas. Stop researching to try to find answers. Because I will never get a definitive answer. Too many ideas have supporters and people who reject those ideas.

Nothing is solved by wasting my time and energy obsessing about philosophies. Nothing changes. It doesn't make life better. It wastes my time and energy over nothing. It's like me trying to physically fight a fictional character. I punch a printed picture of a fictional character. After all that, nothing is solved. My hands are bleeding and damaged. I wasted my life over nothing.

Ignorance can be bliss.

Making your mind simple makes life much easier. Having a simple life removes unnecessary things, distractions, things that cause you worry, fear, and stress.

#6 My happiness and peace of mind are most important. I believe I am real. I believe the 8 billion people in the world are real. I believe everything that exists in this universe is real. My sadness, suffering, psychological and physical pain, crying, tragedies, difficult circumstances, happiness, peace, five physical senses, good moments, and the people I love are real and important to me.

The people I love and spending time with them are more important than philosophies.

Your life is a result of your choices and what you believe in.

The people I love and care about are real. I am real. My emotions are real. My experiences are real.

I don't want to obsess and think about philosophical ideas anymore. I don't want to worry endlessly about everything and be afraid of everything. I don't want to suffer anymore. I suffered endlessly for many years. I want the suffering to end. I don't care anymore. I just want to be happy and have peace of mind.

We are all going to die one day. I want to be happy and have peace before I die.
