The Legacy of LeBron James
LeBron James was drafted to the NBA immediately after graduating from high school. He was the #1 pick of the 1st round, chosen by the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron was from Akron, Ohio. Cleveland picking him was like choosing a hometown hero, or in this case, a home state hero.
In 2010 he shocked the world by "The Decision". He made a big 3 in Miami with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
Growing up, I hated LeBron and the Miami Heat because they formed a big 3. But when LeBron returned to Cleveland, he won me over as a fan. I became a fan of him, and I became less of a Kobe Bryant fan over time. In the 2015 Finals, he did everything he could by sacrificing his efficiency to try to get Cleveland to compete against Golden State when Kyrie and Kevin Love were injured and out for the series. In the 2015 Finals, I became a huge fan of LeBron James, and nothing would change that.
Many years passed. It is now 2026. I look back at LeBron's time in Miami as a fun, unpredictable time. The narrative made that era interesting. Both LeBron and Dwyane Wade are now two of my favorite players ever. Chris Bosh is underrated, and his willingness to sacrifice his individual stats and accomplishments for the sake of the team cannot be understated. Feelings change. I realized as an adult that taking sports too seriously is unhealthy.
4 regular season MVPs, 4 Finals MVPs, 4 Championships, 1 time led the league in scoring, 1 time led the league in assists, 10 Finals appearances. He won Cleveland, Ohio, out of all places in America, a championship.
LeBron is getting to the end of his career. Having 23 great years and a permanent prime for his career is impressive. Since 2013, he has consistently amazed me year by year. But now we are getting to the end. Everything will eventually come to an end.
I believe LeBron will go to Cleveland. He loves his theatrics and narrative. It would be the Hollywood movie ending for LeBron to return to Cleveland for the 3rd and final time, and to finish his career where it all started. The beginning and the end.
Will I miss LeBron when he retires? Absolutely.
Will I miss the theatrics, the unpredictable factor, the anticipation when he was in the league, and how he changed things? Yes.
And I have to answer the question that will be debated till the end of time. Michael Jordan vs LeBron James for the title of Greatest of All Time. I still choose Michael Jordan as the Greatest of All Time. LeBron James is second on my all-time top 10 list. Anyone who does not have Michael or LeBron as their top 2, or does not have both those names in the top 5, is delusional.
